Duration of Treatment

LANAP treatment can be provided within two days or be scheduled over two weeks, and post-LANAP procedure recovery can take 24 hours. Patients are advised to gently care for the treated site, by not brushing initially for a week and rather gently rubbing the tooth with cotton swabs while rinsing mildly with warm salt water. Antibiotics may be prescribed with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (over-the-counter NSAIDs) like Ibuprofen. A diet with soft foods and liquids will also usually be recommended to prevent damage to the newly formed blood clots.

Post LANAP procedure care

After LANAP procedure, you can expect a recovery period in which the dentist will schedule check-up appointments for one week, thirty days, and then every three months to monitor healing of the periodontal ligament, resistance to infection, and for dental maintenance. Patients are also encouraged to keep up recommended dental hygiene practices to reduce risk of dental decay or root caries triggering periodontitis.

The LANAP treatment prevents tooth loss through the new root cementum surface coating and new connective tissues forming the periodontal ligament and collagen. The same results are achieved in reducing pocket depth as with traditional periodontal surgery, but without the post-operative effects of receding gum tissue, inflammation and bleeding, and root sensitivity.
